Reading English

English Reading & Spelling
-----------------------------
Letter
2 nd Std
k   kh  g  gh   ng
ച   ഛ   ജ ഝ  ഞ
ch chh   j   jh   nj (nch)
ട  ഠ ഡ ഢ ണ
t        d           n
ത   ഥ  ദ   ധ   ന
t    th   d   dh  n
പ  ഫ  ബ  ഭ    മ
p   ph  b      bh  m

Anil
അ   നി ഇ  ൽ
   a     n   i      |
Spelling

The client and the advocate

The client and the advocate

Aim : Listen and comprehend various kinds of questions and respond to them instantly in English

Divide the class into two equal groups. They sit in circles- Group I in the inner circle and Group – 2 in the outer circle. When Group 1 plays the Group 2 observes the processes. They take note of the actions and talks by the leader and the participants, during the activity.
The leader gets inside the circle and tells “This is a Court, I am the Judge and you all are advocates present in the court. Then how will you address me? The person sitting to your right is your client. As the judge I can ask the clients any question. But only the client’s advocate should answer my question. Let’s begin the Court session “
The leader moves inside the circle, points and asks a simple question (Yes / No or using question tags) to any person sitting in the circle. His / her advocate has to give the answer to the question. Move to some other person and ask another question to him / her.
After 4-5 persons increase the complexity of the questions (Wh-questions) and then ask different kinds of open ended questions. After the initial round, invite a participant who failed to respond to a question or a person who forgot the rule of the game to conduct the game.
Each sub group in Group – 2 shall present their documentation in the plenary, including the teacher talk and the talk of the participants. Exhibit the questions asked on a chart. Then invite them to form a circle and encourage one among the participants to conduct the game in the new group. Group -1 should undertake the documents as done by Group – earlier.

Common mistakes

"Scale എന്നാൽ  a set of numbers or amounts, used to measure or compare the level of something."

"a woman's or girl's undergarment, covering the body from the waist or hips to the top of the thighs and having two holes for the legs.

'Marriage' എന്നാൽ  ദീര്ഘകാലത്തേക്കുള്ള രണ്ടു വ്യക്തികൾ തമ്മിലുള്ള ബന്ധത്തെ (relationship), ആണ് കാണിക്കുന്നത്.

Wedding (വിവാഹാഘോഷം) ആണ് ചടങ്ങ്;

'Wedding refers to the 'ceremony (ചടങ്ങ് അല്ലെങ്കിൽ event)' that unites two people in 'Marriage'.

ഇനി സുഹൃത്തിന്  ആശംസ പറയുമ്പോൾ "Marriage anniversary" എന്നല്ല  "wedding anniversary" എന്ന് പറയണം എന്ന് പ്രത്യേകം പറയേണ്ടതില്ലല്ലോ.

["wedding anniversary" എന്നു  വച്ചാൽ  'The anniversary of the day on which the ceremony (event) took place.']

"Teacher I have a doubt"

അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ടീച്ചർ ചിലപ്പോൾ തിരിച്ചു ചോദിക്കുന്നത്

"Do you have any doubts?"

ഈ പദ പ്രയോഗവും ഒട്ടും ശരിയല്ല.

പാശ്ചാത്യ രാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ ഒക്കെ ‘doubt’ എന്നു  പറഞ്ഞാൽ   'ആശങ്ക' അല്ലെങ്കിൽ 'കഴിവിലുള്ള അവിശ്വാസം എന്നാണ്.

'Doubt' is associated with 'doubting' somebody's ability.

'Doubt' നു പകരം 'question' എന്ന് ചേർത്താണ് ശരിയായ പ്രയോഗം. താഴെ നോക്കൂ

"Teacher I have a 'question".

അല്ലെങ്കിൽ

"Do you have any further questions?"  ആണ് ശരിയായ പദ പ്രയോഗം.

2. പലപ്പോളും കേൾക്കാറുള്ളതാണ് 'Anyways'. ഇതു  ശരിയല്ല 'Anyway' ആണ് ശരി.

(“Anyway”  ഒരു  'adverb' അതുകൊണ്ട്  'it is impossible for adverbs to be plural'.)

3. 'Years back' എന്ന പ്രയോഗത്തിലും 'Years ago' ആണ് കൂടുതൽ ശരി.

4. What is your good name?   നാട്ടിൽ വിദേശികൾ  ഒക്കെ വരുമ്പോൾ, പലപ്പോളും ആശയക്കുഴപ്പത്തിലാകുന്നതാണ് 'good name' എന്ന പ്രയോഗം.

"What is your name?" അത്രയും മതി. അതാണ് ശരി.

"I have passed out from D.B. college." ശരിയല്ല "

"I have graduated from D.B. college." എന്നതാണ് ശരി.

'Cambridge English Dictionary പ്രകാരം Pass out എന്നാൽ  'to become unconscious for a short time...

shine as a trainer

The following are 22 simple but powerful concepts you don’t usually hear at a train the trainer course that can really help you be more prepared and shine as a trainer.

1.      You are not in class to be a star, but to make your learners shine.
2.      Politics and religion have no room in the training room.
3.      Sometimes your learners will know more than you do.
4.      You don’t have to be perfect. Your learners will understand.
5.      You have to be in class at least one hour before start time.
6.      If you don’t love training, find another job.
7.      Don’t make flight plans assuming your class will always end on time.
8.      Find someone who has taught the class before and take him or her to lunch- your treat.
9.      People don’t usually argue with their own data: Get your learners to generate answers and solutions.
10.   There is such a thing as a stupid question. Your job is to act as if it’s not.
11.   Never blame your content. Always remember the golden rule “It’s not what you say it’s how you say it!”  There is no boring training, only boring trainers.
12.   Breaking people into small groups can be tricky. It requires both math and communicating the math to others. Asking twenty people to “get into five groups” is not the same as asking them to get into “groups of five.” Not being clear about this can cause a 5-minute disruption, rattle you, and annoy your participants.
13.   Good platform skills are necessary, but insufficient. If you are just an entertainer with no real understanding of the realities of the job, people will dismiss you. (And they should.)
14.   Know your audience. Different audience types need different approaches. The formality, dress, and level of familiarity you might use with a group of senior managers might be different from what you would use with a group of millennials.
15.   Deal with reality: Plenty of breaks, nothing boring in the afternoon or after lunch, lots of time for questions.
16.   In every group of learners, there’s always one who wants to prove you wrong.
17.   Expect learners to want and expect to leave early.
18.   Be ready for the mid-afternoon or after lunch slump – interject with energizing activities.
19.   Always be prepared for something to go wrong.
20.   Always take an extension cord, masking tape, extra set of markers and evaluation sheets.
21.   Find and develop your unique learning style.
22.   If what you’re doing isn’t working, try something new.
